The Comenius Fellowship exists to provide a forum for the discussion of faith issues surrounding the Judeo-Christian tradition from an intellectual perspective and to promote a spirit of tolerance and understanding among participants. Johann Amos Comenius was chosen as the Fellowship's patron because of his emphasis on education and on religious tolerance.

The Comenius Fellowship's purpose is intellectual, not devotional. Many opportunities for devotional activities exist in the form of worship services and Bible studies, but opportunities for intellectual discussion of religious topics are rare. The Comenius Fellowship was founded to provide such an opportunity.

The Comenius Fellowship's purpose is tolerant, not sectarian. Because promoting one particular form of Christian theology over others would stifle rather than stimulate discussion, the Comenius Fellowship does not have any statement of faith, require membership in any church or denomination, or allow its meetings to be used for the purpose of proselytizing. Instead, in the spirit of its patron, the Fellowship encourages tolerance and intellectual growth by fostering open discussion and respectful sharing of beliefs, ideas, and opinions.
